A situation in good light but never direct sunlight. As with all indoor plants, establishing a good watering practice can be a bit tricky at first. Aphelandra like to stay generally moist but not sopping wet and must always be kept in a pot with good drainage. Generally watering once a week will keep them happy. Fertilize lightly during the growing season of spring and early summer every 2 weeks with an all round fertilizer.

Here are the basic care requirements.

• A moderately bright windowsill or similar spot to grow in.
  
• Watering when it begins to dry out, usually every 7 to 10 days.
  
• Fertilizing with a fertilizer made for indoor foliage plants
  
• Repotting when the plant becomes too big for its pot.
